the promotion
Comrade Ian woke early, his fitful sleep cut short by a cacophony of bugles sounding the 6am wake up call. Stumbling out of bed, Ian made a beeline for the bathroom. Staring at his reflection in the mirror Ian’s eyes light up, as though connected to a live wire – he suddenly remembered why his sleep was so uneasy, he was to be promoted to lieutenant that very afternoon!
Ian hurriedly washed himself and got dressed.
There was much to done before the ceremony, buttons to be polished, his uniform would need a thorough brushing and probably an ironing. He would also need a shave and probably a haircut, he wanted to look smart for the generals!
He decided he would wear his new boots with the silver buckles on them and he would slick his hair back like they do in the city.
Unfortunately, despite all the excitement and the forward planning, one little detail was determined to spoil the day – Ian was actually a rabbit and accolades such as a commission for lieutenant were bestowed upon people, not mad rabbits.
